He could have entered by the pilot's ladder that has been hung out for his benefit. But no, he had to do it his own way - climbing through the pilot boat's rigging and taking a very long step onto the freighter! :)

Snow too!!!!!! Perhaps the cutter is rolling and rising and falling in the swells. Might his option was a bit safer. He would know for sure.

Maybe he's of 'Roman' extraction? pILot ~ a plain, ordinary '49 er'? Then there's the 'leaner' pIVot, which applies in partic[COLOR="Blue"][/COLOR]ular to the hIps.

Care to explain? I have had a glass of thought quickening juice, endured five minutes of cold shover, and have leafed through a refreshment course on semiotic signification and symbiotic symbolism, but as of yet I have no idea of what you are hinting at.
