Aker Mekaniske Verksted

Braemar in a "dry land" dry dock with Oslofjord in the "floating" dry dock on the outside. (What is the correct nomenclature?) Aker yard in the fifties. A bit unlucky with that crane pointing right out of the bow of the Braemar

They are 'drydocks'.... as opposed to 'wet dock'. The OSLOFJORD is in a FLOATING DOCK. BEAMAR is in a GRAVING DOCK.

What a pity SAGAFJORD and VISTAFJORD did not have these beautiful figureheads. NCL did on all of their present fleet. Ouch!

I defy anyone to say that these bows are not absolutely lovely .....perfect even.

Nowadays of course they are inverted on a lot of ships in the search of efficiency I believe ?. Typical, in the upside down world of today.
