Too true, waiwera. Forgot to mention the box on the foredeck .......seem to remember that there was another one on the port side, both of them sat on baulks of timber and lashed down with chains and bottlescrews! No container fittings on board then.
Thanks for posting that one Capt. Mike!
I was on Cyclops when you took the photo, but did one trip on Antilochus later.
Yes, by that time the dreaded boxes were already occcupying the swimming pool's spot.
I had a very good time coasting Antilochus in 1961, I was SOS at the time. we joined her in London, brought her round North about to Belfast, and then on to Glasgow to start loading and paid off in Birkenhead.
It was the best crowd I ever sailed with, all fun loving harum scarum scousers, who smuggled aboard eight girls from Du Barry's bar in Belfast, who stayed with us for a few days after arrival in Glasgow, and then marched down the gangway one evening to the amazed incomprehension of the fourth mate.
A very happy ship, but it was a bit quiet after those Irish girls jumped ship.
