MV Apsleyhall on a rather sporty day in 1965 westbound in the North Pacific.

Whe was owned by the West Hartlepool Steam Navigation Company and at that time was on charter to ZIM Line.

She was built in Sunderland 1962 and was powered by a 6 cylinder Dozford J Type.

She was eventually sold to Gibra

"Apsleyhall" to Wenduyne Shipping Co Ltd, Gibraltar in 1969 and renamed "Wenduyne" although PoR still Hartlepool.
1973: Sold to Standard Bulk Transport Corp and renamed "Angelina"
1974 To Marvel Shipping Co. S.A. Panama.
05/06/81: Abandoned off Montevideo after taking in water, fire subsequently broke out and vessel settled in shallow water near English Bank, declared CTL.

I think that should read 6 cylinder Doxford "P" type, the first "J" type was not built until 1964 and was a 9 cylinder engine.

Tom, Thank you for that information. I spent two and a half years in Apsleyhall as an apprentice enjoying the dying days of tramp ships.

Superb atmospheric photo Pat - looks better in B&W too.

Seems you found a clear bit of glass to see through just as the wave rolls away on the port bow!
