Taken by Erick Hosckings from the Southbound CAPETOWN CASTLE in 1959.Nothbound and Southbound mailships passed at the Canary Island,In Cape Town and in Port Elizabeth,but it was the cerimonial passing at sea that was remembered so well,for the liners closed each other at 21knots(old .mag.pic.col.)
I think this should be Athlone Castle.
Built by Harland and Wolff Belfast yard number 942 Launched 28th November 1935 delivered 13th May 1936 25567 gross tons for Union Castle Line.
Sister ship Sterling Castle yard number 941 Launched 15th august 1935 delivered 29th January 1936 25594 gross tons.
