Atlantic Convoy

Atlantic Convoy

Aquitania's name was never used in the article about Atlantic Convoys covered in the 27 July, 1942 issue of Life Magazine. Most of the pictures in the article were taken from the US Battleship New York, which was sailing with the group as an escort. The voyage discussed in the article actually took place back in May of 1942, but censorship was taken very seriously during the war, and the voyage wasn't written about until two months after it had happened. This would be the last convoy mission the old ship would make on the North Atlantic, all of her future crossings would be solo efforts.

Cleverly concealing the identity of the last four funneled liner in existence by not mentioning her name. I suppose the vast majority of the readers would not be keen on ships, nice shot gonna find a copy of that cover & frame it.

Hi Chris, yes I was laughing at that fact myself. I think there were more than a few people who recognized the ship right off the bat, but the attempt to hide it is pretty funny. Hope you find a really good copy of the magazine, the covers of most of these are not likely to be in great condition.
