Austrian steam tug

Austrian steam tug

A side-wheel steam tug on the River Danube at the Iron Gates. On the bank are visible the tracks of the towpath. The vessel is certainly Austro-Hungarian.

Don't have my other sources about the Danube at hand, but according to Wikipedia the Treidelbahn (towage-railway) was built during the First World War only:

So the picture was probably taken between the wars, even if I don't recognize the funnel marking of the first tug.

Hello kgvm,
thank you for correcting the captions of s/s Uruguay and this photo. Indeed, the towage-railway was installed only in 1916 and completely disabled in 1918. Anew commissioned into service in 1928. So the photo must have been taken between both World Wars.
Regards, Sebastian
