Interesting shot - looks like an Elder Dempster ship, "Ebani", on a Blue Funnel charter?

Quote - Must have been a culture shock for the ED lads after the West African Coast! - Unquote

The second that I opened up this pic I thought "that ship is a long way from home".

Thanks chaps for your comments on 'Ebani' . Just remembered the wooden lifeboat onboard was one we obtained after picking up crew and passengers of the 'Lalang', which was abandoned after catching fire at the end of september in 1973. The lads made it into a painting punt - and she was very usefull.

Great shot Butters, cant recall the vessel astern. Looks like Barry Dobbs on the right, but cant place the other fellow.Yes, the wooden lifeboat served its purpose as a punt alright. It ended up in Coromandel !!! A fishing boat towed it from Auckland.Cheers. Paul
