I am sure you are correct Eddy - I have no knowledge of the differences. I shall amend the description to show topsail schooner rather than brig.

Hi Doncontrols. Brig had square sails on both masts. Topsail schooner was fore-and-aft rigged with squaresails on foretopmast ie with yards as on "Beatrice".
I wondered if the glass plate had a note describing "Beatrice" as a brig. Some brigs were rerigged since fewer crew required to handle sails on a schooner. There are quite a few schooners etc named "Beatrice" in the Mercantile Navy List around 1900 so it would not be easy to pin her down. Lovely photo by the way.

Hi Eddy, for some reason I thought the original advert said Brig, but when I checked, it was not the case. I think I must have just created it without realising! There is nothing on the plate itself.
