Excellent drawing as ever. Im afraid I dont agree about being elegant. To me they dont look 'natural', more a case of designed for the job and that is fair enough. In fact just like our present day box carriers and Cruise Ships

Jim: rise up! Elegance, like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. In this case 'elegance' is relative and solely in comparison to other ships of the genre and is in design touches like the stack and details of the superstructures and around bow and fantail... These were and are ships in which function is the prime motivation in their design and layout but that said the period from 1948 until 1960 did see some good looking lakes ships - U.S. and Canadian - enter service including the John Sherwin and the most elegant of them all, the Wilfred Sykes and Edward L Ryerson.
