The Brazilian Trackers were maned and operated by the Air Force, they were locally called P-16. Until recently, the Navy was allowed only to operate helicopters. The BAF´s unit charged with carrier operations was 1º Grupo de Aviaçao Embarcada, 1º GAE, (1st Embarked Aviation Group). The Tracker were retired December 1996, and the unit disbanded June 1998, having operated the P-95, a MPA version of the commuter transport EMB-!!) Bandeirante, locally produced. The Minas Gerais was decommissioned in 2001, after the arrival of the São Paulo (A-12), the ex French Foch.
