Bremerhafen

Bremerhafen

Bremerhafen some time ago. Before or after WW I? The two ships have both what may be a plain buff funnel, and it is therefore natural to consider the Norddeutsche Lloyd as owners. The nearest one has six letters in her name.
Her hawsers are in a very relaxed state, and no one is to be seen, onboard

Dating migth require calling in the experts :)
Apparently winter time based on ice and snow visible.
But there seems to be one person next to the ship, almost under the gangway and 3 people on top of the stairs in the center of the picture.
Its inside the dock, so not much worry about currents and such.
The, or one of the locks is visible in the fore ground.
That building can probably be found in a Bremerhaven history.

Resembles: on the left type AACHEN (NDL 1895-WWI); on the right type THERAPIA (NDL 1906-WWI).

Hi Bearsie. I didn't realize it was inside a dock; but there the water level should be relatively constant, so what's the reason for the state of the hawsers? They don't seem to have been loading much lately.

Hi CVB, I wish I had the means to confirm your naming, but I haven't, so I'll take Aachen and Therapia, or sisterships, as what is here photographed, and then date the picture as at least before 1918.

Regards, Stein.

It doesn't look like a cargo pier, no cranes, no tracks.
Perhaps its where they load passengers?
Might have been a sunday, no one works on sunday ....
Presumably this is the Kaiserhafen and lock.
I have to dig around to see if I can find the building.
Email to Bremerhaven has been sent, awaiting answer...
