No, I would suggest April 1986, still as St Columba. She has obviously received a fresh coat of paint and is still wearing Sealink British Ferries livery.
She visited again in February 1991 and during that refit she became Stena Hibernia with livery altered to reflect Sealink Stena Line.
In 1996 she became the Stena Adventurer.
I would point to 1989.
The former SPIRIT OF LONDON/SUN PRINCESS was sold to Premier Cruises in 1989 and was transformed into the STARSHIP MAJESTIC by Lloyd Werft during that year.
If my guess is correct, the Soviet ferry in the drydock in the foreground could be the KONSTANTIN SIMONOV.
Paulo,
The St Columba was only in Bremerhaven twice; April 1986 and February 1991.
In 1986 she left in the livery she arrived with - Sealink British Ferries.
In 1991 she left with a different livery - Sealink Stena Line, and a different name - Stena Hibernia.
In the shot above she has obviously just finished her overhaul as she is gleaming from stem to stern.
You may view photos of both visits on the St Columba page on my web site.
Then it's a mistery... the former SUN PRINCESS is already sporting the red hull, typical of Premier ships, so the delivery date of the STARSHIP MAJESTIC shouldn't be very far, and she was delivered early in 1989 to Premier.
I've been trying to find more information, to see if the STARSHIP returned to Bremerhaven later, up until 1991, but with no luck so far.
Hi Paulo,
I don't know what to tell you! The two St Columba visits were as I mentioned above. Of this there is no doubt. When she arrived in Feb 1991 as St Columba she was incredibly rusty. When repainted, she was the Stena Hibernia, which she is not in this shot.
Just one other pointer, she is missing her starboatd side rescue boat. In 1986 this was left behind in Holyhead for work. If you view the 1986 shot of her on my web site passing through the Dover Strait on her way back to Holyhead you will also see the rescue boat is missing.
The ship looks like the Wasa Prince Wmac.
If that is the case, it dates the photo as March 1989. But then I don't understand the St Columba presence as she was there in 1986 and 1991.
The ship top left is the Channel Seaway (later Fiesta) and that would also suggest 1989.
I will have to consult my notes in case I must stand corrected!!
