Thanks for the pic. One of my late father's ships when he was with Rowbothams. Not built in 1959 though, if the pic was in the 50's. I seem to recall Bridgeman was a Dutch vessel that Rowbotham Tankships bought or took over.
I sailed on the 'Bridgeman' in 1962, Master was Frank Finn, I believe from Bridlington, I met him many years later when he was a Trent Pilot. Is this the same person ?
Hello.
Hope you are well.
That is the same person. I am his grandson following in the footsteps. He was from Bridlington before moving to Hull when he became a Trent pilot.
Hi Matthew, He was a great guy and a great skipper and had a wicked sense of humour. I was with him on the 'Bridgeman' in December 1962 when she caught fire in Gonfreville and the Mate Charles Edward Shorter was killed by the fumes. The French Fire Brigade smashed the Portholes to try to release the smoke ???? so afterwards they welded plates over them and we sailed to Drypool drydock in Old Harbour ,Hull for repair. The new Mate that joined was Alec Graham who was well known in Rowbothams and I had sailed with him previously in F.T. Everard's 'Aptity' Regards
Hi
I remember my grandad telling me that fire. I believe Charles had some bad news on the home front and a cigerette caused the fire. I must have been a terrible time onboard at that time. I will have to mention the names to my grandad, im sure it will bring back memories. Thanks for taking highly of him.
I cannot seem to find pictures of the Pointsman, another vessel he was Master off when bunkering on the Mersey and Irish Sea.
There are a couple of Pointsman here:
