BRITANNIC

Another in a series of Cunard ads that appeared in magazines during the 1950's, featuring superb paintings by Carl Evers.

Exceptional images for sure. The painting of Mauretania (I have one these also) seem to show a wet drizzle day.

Carl Evers also did several similar for Grace Line.

I have yet to see any 'photograph' images than can do a better job in steamship advertising!

I have read that after childhood in Germany and art education in England, he worked for a number of years in Sweden, and there did a number of paintings for Swedish America Line and Johnson line. I would have liked to see those.

He does remind me at times - as here - of Frank Wootton.

A "Charlie" Evers Johnson cargo liner from 1947. According to the Swedish text it is from a South America trip he made onboard in that year.: (leaf down two thirds of the page) http://www.landgangen.se/forum/index.php?topic=8101.2580 According to the writer he was Sweden's best automobile advertising illustrator in the fifties. I think that ought to be thirties and forties, as in several other places he is said to have left for the USA in 1947, after 16 years in Sweden.
