Built by Alexander Stephen & Sons in 1959 she was 11,169 gr tons and a very handsome vessel. Seen here at Jarrow Oil Terminal in 1968 she and her sisters were ever a popular spectacle.

The first of the 'Birdies', a much loved class by most who sailed on them. They lasted well, most of them doing around 25 years service. One of them, the Curlew, went on to become a film star in the 2005 Iranian film 'Iron Island.'
