The main engine, a British Polar on board the trawler SEAFIRE ex BOSTON SEAFIRE in the process of being stripped down to be removed for parts.
Berthed at Wellington the vessel which was built in 1956 is to be scuttled in Cook Strait during the coming weeks

I would not have thought there was many of those diesels left working. They were my first introduction to what a scavenge fire was. Apart from that they were reliable and easy to start if they were placed in the start position.

hi my first trip was with my grandfather in the sando/ rhodesian Gy457 she had a polar engine 2 stroke !
