SWINE CHRIS >>>>>> I shall now go to bed and sob my heart out over the photos of these lovely ships and the memories they evoke .... the very best of BP Tankers without a shadow of doubt.

There would be a great many BP Tanker members who would all front up tomorrow for one more trip on any of these "Birdy Boats" .... if only.

What a marvellous series of photos. Sad though, as they depict the coming of the end of the Birdy Boat era in BP. Some of them survived for many years under Chinese ownership.
I'd certainly be right behind Barnsey in the queue for another trip on one. I think there was another thread on this site where someone reckoned there was the remains of one of the Birds rusting up the Gulf somewhere. Anyone know how true this is?
Kind regards,
John.

Lovely set of pictures Chris, very evocative for me as my two "Birds" ended up in Barry docks moored side by side by strange coincidence. British Cormorant and British Swift. The nicest class of product carriers BP ever had built in my opinion and, yes, like John and Barnsey I'd sign on for another trip in one like a shot. John, the one who's fate is in doubt is the British Swift. Having been sold to Noah Shipping Co. in 1977 and renamed Noah VI she was in collision with the tanker Cast Gull 19.5.1982 and limped to Bahrain for repairs. She then seems to have been lost track of. Lloyds deleted her owners, flag and port of registry from their Register in 1998 and the vessel herself from the 2000 Register with the notation "Continued existence in doubt". However, some say that her hulk is still mouldering away in some forgotten creek in the Gulf somewhere. Interestingly, Miramar lists nothing under "Disposal Data". I hope it's not true, she deserved better than abandonment and being left to rot.
Regards,
Alastair

Mornin' all .... as predicted I have had a rough night/morning of it .... what a nightmare down in Barry Docks, couldnt find my cabin .... into Third Mates cabin, nope nothing like it so climbed the stairs to a stateroom ... nope didn't look at all like 'My Cabin', came off watch and needed a shower but the one I went in was more like that on a 16' painted up in technicolour 'Eau de Nil' ....the old sub-concious was really working overtime to conjour up 'My Birdy Boat' .... and now its a bright sunny morning in Westport NZ and not a cold foggy dull day in Barry Docks for a last trip on British Swift .....

Hope someone comes up with a photo of the remains of British Swift if that is her spoken of above.....?
