Bulknes loading Newsprint rolls in Hobart mid 1970's. This slide shows the funnel colours but I was reluctant to post it as the slide has split just forward of the bridge. I was able to patch it up using Photoshop.
For many years prior to the introduction of the "TNT Alltrans" in 1983 the "Bulknes" was on the Gladstone to Bluff run with alumina for the smelter here. She then had a combined Australian and New Zealand crew and her funnel was black with a silver kiwi on one side and a kangaroo on the other.
She brought Sugar back to the UK Silvertown, when she was returned to the UK management. I visited the ship at Silvertown to see my old mate Ian Granger, who was the second mate, (we had completed the college part of second Mates together). Every cabin had a fridge, and armchairs as the Aussie unions were that strong. Pity ours wasn't, but then we did last a bit longer before finally being flagged out.
