CALLSIGNS OF PORTISHEADRADIO

SPARKIES---REMEMBER ALL THESE CALLSIGNS??
VERY SAD THEY ARE NO LONGER HEARD ANYMORE.
IT WAS PART OF OUR LIFE WHEN AT SEA AND A BIG LOSS TO MOST OF US WHEN WE COULD NO LONGER TUNE IN TO THE TRANSMISSIONS ANYMORE.
WHO INVENTED SATELLITES----THAT REALLY SPOILT OUR DAY THAT DID!!
FOR THE NON SPARKIES OUT THERE THE BIT OF MORSE ON THE BOTTOM OF PICTURE nw QRT
means it has now stopped transmitting.

Freddy,

It was a very emotional day for RO's at GKA when we sent our last messages and closed down. I spent 28 years in the service mainly at GKA with tours at other coast stations - GLD,GIL,GKZ,GND. So these bring back many memories.

hi neville, thanks comments, yes i bet it was a very emotional day, i was listening to the close down messages at home and brought a tear to my eye, the end of an era indeed. I did work gkb the night before on a ships calling frequency but using my amateur callsign.(naughty boy) but i had to send my best wishes and thank them for the work they had all done over the years.
you all did a great job at gka and the smaller uk coast stations, always polite and helpful, never liked the long qry list though! getting stuck behind passy boats with 20 phone calls or 35 msg's. ha-ha.great days neville thanks again. john ftf
