Canberra

P&O's magnificent Canberra, seen during her last visit to Tenerife on 5th Sep., 1997. She had been completed at Belfast in 1961 by Harland & Wolff shipyards. Ignominiously scrapped at Gadani beach, Pakistan, in 1997-1998.

Great shot of the CANBERRA at Tenerife on what was her final call to the island.

BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, LOVELY, SPECIAL, UNFORGETTABLE...... Just a few words that in my view sum up the magnificent CANBERRA :)

I had tears dripping off my chin on that cold dark night on the 31 October 1997 as my beloved CANBERRA departed the Port of Southampton for the very last time bound for the scrap merchants at Gadani Beach, Pakistan.

It's unbelievable to think that it's nearly 22 years since we had the pleasure of seeing the CANBERRA, how time has flown but memories last forever.

[COLOR="Navy"]Hi Sean.

Apologies for not wishing you a great day yesterday; trust it was? Just remember that the first 'E' you received ~ having become LIV ~ means that you can now liv e life to the full. Your beloved Canberra 'made' 37 which is not a bad age for a beauty of the seas. What was the QE2, 38 39 if I remember correctly and I'm sure you know exactly and immediately.

Hi Graham

Yes I had a good day yesterday as in my birthday nothing too special though a nice meal out with the family :)

Yes my beloved CANBERRA had a great 36 years of service to P&O and of course my other favourite lady the Queen Elizabeth 2 had an even longer career thanks to her re-engining in 1986/7, she had a service career spanning 39 years.

I take it that your well Graham and many thanks for the message regarding my birthday it's appreciated.

[COLOR="Blue"]Glad the day went well, Sean, family celebrations are what shoreside, off duty life is all about.

Kind of you to enquire on the health front, let's just say 'still breathing'.

Have a great forthcoming weekend.

Kindest you and yours.

Not to mention her running mate for a couple of years "Oriana" leaves the P&O fleet in the next week or so.
