CARLOTTA

CARLOTTA

Carlotta. This photo was taken in 1912 at Port Oriel Pier, Clogherhead, Co. Louth, Ireland. The ship is the Carlotta, she may have been a German klondyker and the Master is thought to have been a Scotchman. The herring season here begins at the end of the summer till Jan. I would think that this is a posed photo take on Sunday or holiday That is all I know of her any ideas as to her details etc. ? Charley

Thanks Bearsie, Can't find that one but came across a few built in the 1980's but none that could be said to be the one in question, Charley

There are lots of North Banks, we even have one here inside the Lighthouse. Have you any other clues as to where it might have been ? Charley

took a bit of digging around...
There was a J. Blumer & Co., Sunderland, so they must have had a north bank there too :) This is all assuming I have the correct ship of course...

Peter my father was from Borgholzhausen a small town with a population of around 35,000 on the Nordreihn -Wesfalen border. Ipswich won 3-2 that day as far as I can remember and I think the match was actually at
Filbert St because it was a cup match. Im actually quite surprised you and him never met as you seemed to have moved in the same circles so to speak but then again when I worked on a ship that my old man wasnt on even on the same charter we seldom met just the odd wave across the water. Actually looking at the map of germany now Borgholzhausen is just n the border of Niedersachsen and not far from Oldenburg.
