If the date was correct the one on the right would be Derwent ex Persic..... but it isnt.
The others to go over to Royal Mail (that may fit the bill ) did so after 1970...Carnatic/Darro 1973, Cretic/Drina 1972, Cymric/Durango 1972.

Thanks Cisco.
The date may be incorrect as I was in Lyttelton in 1970 which is when I thought that this photo was taken but only from the fact that it was with other photos from 1970 (on our honeymoon!) but there is the chance that it was 1967 when I was fortunate to sail on the Wahine from Lyttelton. It may be the 1970s even, so don't let the date put you good people off, please.
You wouldn't want to see my slide filing 'system'. (Cloud)

I would say its the Carnatic you can just make out the shield on the funnel and the house flag looks like the crusader line one . One think for sure it was before 1974 as the dredge was scrapped in auckland then .

I can't make out the shield or the houseflag but the funnel is more Crusader yellow than Royal Mail buff so if Carnatic was on the crusader service in 1970 I would agree with Duncan.

Now that we have confirmed that the location is Napier rather than Lyttelton (it was our honeymoon after all)! .........
Just for clarity are we talking of the LH or RH vessel as Carnatic, please?
When we clarify that, any ideas as to the other ship, please?

If you look at the main mast of the one I the right which I would say is the carnatic you will just see the crusader house flag as while she was on charter to them she never flew the shaw savill house flag . If its 1970 when this was taken I would have been in her at the time
