Two points indicate this can only be VICTORIOUS to me..the island structure is lower than what would be expected for EAGLE, whilst the deck openings seen above the waterline only fit the profile if viewing other shots of VICTROIOUS.
HERMES? The bridge is very similar, but again the openings indicate it can only be VICTORIOUS.
And for my 5c worth...what a STUNNING photo hillshepherd!
Agree about openings. My pictures of Eagle and the Vic show the front of the bridge to be very similar. Even down to the T978 nav radar and the D/F loop on the braced mast forward.
Another problem is the massive difference in the dates of the pictures. I am also assuming they are all annotated correctly!! (No proof reading errors)
As mentioned, nice picture! and perhaps another title could have been:
"disconnect the light jackstay, the Padre's going to walk across"
Many thanks all comments and good humour. It was definitely 1964 and I have now found I have a second shot which I believe to be the same serial. This is posted above - hope it is of interest.
Kind regards H/S
Gentlemen, gentlemen! Has it been so long since you all saw a real carrier, that you have forgotten just how much bigger HMS ARK ROYAL and EAGLE were, when compared with the "light" fleet carriers? Study the photo in this link closely and never again will you confuse the two......I sincerely hope!
