one of the most eventfull trips that I done ,from Chicago to Calcutta and back , considering that we were told before flying to join at Montreal in Oct '75, " the crowd has been out for seven months , just do the lakes and back to UK for dry dock before christmas ", ship went aground for three days in the St Lawrence seaway about a week before the place freezes until the spring time, first trip " old man " but the pilot took the wrong side of a buoy . On Indian coast , two dockies ended their final shift , sailed us christmas day from Abadan at noon at short notice and cracked a liner , but got new year in Kuwait , on return to Montreal , they found bugs in the lub oil had wiped all the white metal in the crankshaft bearings of the Doxford , and all parts had to be transfered to 3 and 4 holds for nearly three months ,this happened , same again next trip at Visag' India ,' glad were were off for the second round , besides being one of the hardest working trips ,I look back and consider it one of the happiest , can you adam an' eve it !

Interesting Funnel--was it on charter to some Canadian company, and were any other Ellerman ships painted the same way?
Cheers,

Temporary colour scheme for that particular run, CIP it was called, Canada, India Pakistan. Not all ships carried it. They then reverted to the usual Ellermans colours.

The run she was on around the States then to the Gulf was the same as the P&O Strathboats late 1970s early 80s' ....great run.

at the time the picture was taken she was on a Norwegian line, one off charter , 'cant recall the name ,but their ships had a fed funnel with a white " H ",
we also carried a Norwegian cargo super ' at that time there were ships at anchor up the gulf for months , we were pleased to get berth with no delay, after discharge in the gulf , she reverted to Canadian City Line , C.I.P. ,mombasa , durban , canada .

Anyway, they were lovely looking ships, I sailed on the Auckland and the Wellington.
I worked for a Norwegian company much later with a similar funnel, Britsh flag though, called Havtor.
