Clan Robertson

Clan Robertson

Clan Line cargo vessel taken in 1954 but I know nothing more about her. I know she had a successor built in 1964 with the same name, operated by Clan Line but owned by Union Castle. If any one can supply more information on this vessel I would be very interested.

shipmate 17, that's brilliant, now that I know her history I've found all her details in the "Safmarine Group History" by Bill Harvey. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to post the information, I'm most greatful.
Regards,
Alastair.

Clans Ross and Robertson were designed for Clan Line's West Coast UK/Durban direct service. They could -when built - get their cargo and the 12 passengers from UK to Durban faster than the U-C mailboats. Once Clan took over U-C the need for such a service vanished.

I can add with confidence that the photo was taken off the Birkenhead, Alfred
Lock entrance and she is shifting Berth from Liverpool Discharge to Birkenhead for Loading as she is flying a No5 pennant which in the Mersey River confines indicates a vessel is shifting berth and not arriving from or going to sea. Such signals were important on a busy river. Clan Line always used "Cock" tugs ...Marine artists often make technical mistakes by just painting incorrect towing vessels with ships just because they look better.
Just in case someone is able to get a magnifying glass to the pennant and
determine it to be No1... that would indicate a "Company Pilot" is aboard.
Snowy. I should say the photo is really good... thankyou!
