COLUMBA

COLUMBA

In November 1973 in stormy weather, David Macbrayne's ferry COLUMBA struck Oban pier resulting in a visit to Greenock to repair bow damage.
I took this in Lamont's drydock a day or so after she arrived.
Built at Aberdeen in 1964 she is still very much to the fore as HEBRIDEAN PRINCESS.

Could the accident have been caused by the reputed difficulty of steering these ships at slow speeds, no doubt exacerbated by strong winds?
