Cape Don

Cape Don

I last saw this ship in 2001 - 6 years later she hasn't moved. I think she's an ex-lighthouse tender but any information would be greatly appreciated!

Phillmono,

Where exactly has this photgraph been taken?? My Father used to be Master of the Cape Don, in the seventies to early eighties. You are correct in thinking she was a Lighthouse Tender, there used to be three altogether, Cape Pillar Melbourne based, Cape Moreton,Brisbane based and the Cape Don Fremantle based. The ships were all owned and operated, as it was known as the Department of Transport being a Commonwealth Government run.She looks very bare in the photo, being stripped of davits on the port side.

Jim.

Phillmono, give me a PM for more info

She's tied up in Ball's Head Bay, Waverton in Sydney. There is a very good site on the net, just type Cape Don.

Ahoy Highlander & Tom, Thanks for the information! I've also found the site and it's extremely helpful: http://www.mvcapedonsociety.org.au/ I have a few more photos and I'm happy to email to you (they're very large). I'd like a chance to go aboard sometime and see a worknig ship close up.
