Concordia recovery

Heavier equipment in place working today on 11th Aug. 2012. I check the webcam each day and this is the first I've seen such a large crane operating.

The larger vessel on the seaward side is 'Micoperi 30' - Arrived dead on schedule on 11/08/12. Its job will be to construct the receiving platform, and then place the caissons on the hull.

The smaller platform on the landward side is jack-up rig 'Micoperi 61' It has been on site since mid June - drilling piles for stabilisation cables and removing the rock from the hull.

They had some powerful lights set up last night running way into the Italian morning.

Are they going to cut down her superstructure before pulling her upright? I can't believe Costa will rebuild her. Far too much damage to her interiors and equipment plus her reputation of being a wrecked ship causing deaths.

From what I gather, the plan is to return her to upright, as nearly intact as possible, before towing her away for certain scrap. No talk of rebuild at all, nor of cutting away her superstructure, as was done to right Normandie.

The mast assembly has already gone, The waterslide has been donated to Giglio, Part of the funnel has been dismantled.
As I gather that is it as far as removing top-hamper is concerned.
The superstructure is apparently now too far distorted to make rebuilding an economic option.
