I joined Coromandel as a junior engineer on Christmas Eve 1964 in London Docks, then a short coastal (Rotterdam, Bremerhaven) then to far east, another coastal (Penang, Port Swettenham, Malacca and Singapore) before going to Bangkok. Five days in port then retraced our steps back to London - 3 month trip.

Fellow engineers on that trip were: John Bowen (2nd); Graham Corless (3rd); "Paddy" (4th) , can't easily remember others.

A happy ship and easy to "steam" the usual Doxford diesel main engine, but steam auxiliaries - great for watchkeeping.

From there left P&O in Dec 1965, joined RFA Resurgent in Mombasa.
