I signed on her in Dock Street 3/8/70, and sailed on her for the usual run between Copenhagen and Leith. It never crossed my mind about it being a coveted job and why it was down south.
The first bosun was a real gent from Shetland Isles, who had been on whalers. The fellow afterwards was an uncommunicative sort of chap, and as the ship had skid beams below, he insisted on opening up the tween decks by hand, even though it was rigged for a winch.Doh!
Such a shame to be lumbered with a Neanderthal, so I paid off in Leith.

When I was a wee girl I was taken to Leith Docks by Captain Webster to see the COURLAND. The Webster family were friends of our family.

She also ran from Manchester to Hamburg for a while in the 60's and was a coveted job then.
