From North of Scotland, Orkney & Shetland Shipping Company Limited 1955 brochure. The ship is St Ola 2. Five-and-a-half guineas would be the equivalent of £125 or more today. Not a bad price for 3 days all-found.
Frankly, NAUCLER, neither had I (although a Stromnessian). Put my ignorance down to the fact that 1955 was my final year as a medical student; I may have been distracted by the need to pass exams and boring stuff like that.
I was on St.Ninian, early 60,s and each of the North boats had a cruise included in the itenary.St.Ninian,sailed from Leith on a Monday ,Aberdeen then to Orkney and Shetland. Some passengers did a round trip from Leith to Leith. Other cruises were a stop off in Orkney or Shetland ,at a hotel, then a transfer to another boat for the trip South.Earl of Zetland did a Thursday night trip around Noss and back to Lerwick for the St.Ninian sailing south at 2200hr.
