Crystal Jewel was involved in a bad day in 1961

To quote from Sugar Line website

23rd September 1961.
In dense fog, there were three collisons in the English Channel.
The CRYSTAL JEWEL and the BRITISH AVIATOR collided en route Rotterdam – Hastings. One person was killed, as a result of the accident.
Sadly this I think was the Captain's wife.
North of Cherbourg the British freighter NICETO DE LARRINAGA
collides with the French tanker SITALA.
Several crew of the British ship were seriously injured.
Off Goodwin Sands, the Italian tanker AURELIA and the Norwegian motor ship FAGERHEIM collide. The ships received minimal damage.

As a postscript the Sugar line owners were unhappy about the outcome of the collision findings but in the end each ship was blamed equally.

All very sad, as the name of this ship is to many synonymous with the tragic event of 1961 and her collision with the British Aviator – for correctness it was the daughter of the Captain who lost her life; she was in the captain's accommodation and sadly was killed almost instantly.

Have vague memories of that BP/Sugar Line accident being taught as the classic 'Radar Assisted Collision'
She reminds me of Stag Lines last boats. Any connection?
