Actually there is considerable speculation about the profitability of Disney Cruise Lines. They only have two ships, built in 1998 and 1999. Although there has been a lot of talk over the years concerning a third ship, nothing happens. Uniquely their total passenger numbers fell from 2003 to 2004. It looks as though their entry into the cruise business has had problems.
Of course, being Disney they cannot just provide a cruise, it needs to be the full Disney Experience. One ship operates on a 3 or 4 day voyage to the Bahamas. I gather that passengers are obliged to dine in a different one of the three restaurants each night. There is no change in the people you dine with and your steward moves with you. It is certainly not free-style dinning!
Thanks Fred, I knew that they had not been that succesful, will be interesting to see what happens with the Pax figures and whether they do a rethink on them.
2000 was the first full year with two ships in operation. 2001 saw the 9/11 dip in numbers, with only a partial recovery in 2002. From then on it seems to be down hill all the way.
They were playing Disney tunes really loud when she was in Southampton, and the whistle even played a Disney tune. My grandchildren liked it, but it drove me mad?!. David
Apart from the emblam on the funnel I reckon both Disney Magic & Disney Wonder could be made beautiful under new ownership, bang goes Freds theory re Kungsholm being the last twin funnler built! lol
Simon.
