This is a well known photograph from the Hulton Getty Picture Collection and depicts Dominion Monarch at the end of Saville Road, Silvertown, London E16, on March 10th 1950. She is in the dry dock at the west end of KGV Docks.

Was on display at the National Maritime Museum in November, the best image of a very disappointing display on London Docks.

Amazing Picture. Have to wonder what the children in the foreground would think, to be told that the Royals would become an Airport!

The Dock Road is between the end wall and the DM, so she is standing proud. Silvertown school on the immediate right?

This photo appears in the opening credits of the BBC TV programme "Call the Midwife". The last one in the series was screened last night. A womans programme really but gave an insight into life in the East End in the 50's.
