Hi Pierre, The EMERALD a Boulogne trawler was lost at Mevagissey, Cornwall on 9 September 1923 during thick fog. The Mevagissey lifeboat rescued the crew of 13. This was not many miles from the wreck of another Boulogne trawler the MARGUERITE wrecked at Talland Bay the year before.

Thanks Paul,

i am very moved to know the Megavissey lifeboat rescued the " Emerauld " crew, as the Ryder, the Looe lifeboat, saved all the crew of my great grand father trawler wrecked at Talland Bay, march 1922, the " Marguerite ". I went to Talland Bay, february and june 2002, to watch the boiler of " Marguerite " and I can tell you my knees remenber the sharp rocks of the Cornwall coast.

have you others photos of Emerald ?

You can see the " Marguerite " story at : http://www.talland.org/shipwrecks.html

Thanks

Hi Pierre
No photos but a little bit more imformation. During intermittent fog in the early morning of September 9th 1923, the French trawler EMERALD of Boulogne, went ashore at Chapel Point, and the Mevagissey lifeboat JAMES CHISHOLM was launched at five o'clock in response to her distress rockets. The master was afraid his vessel would turn over as the tide receded, and at his request all the crew of thirteen were taken off.
