Empire Gull & Sir Bedivere. Marchwood.

Picture taken sometime in the 1970's showing the 'Gull' being loaded at Marchwood Mil Port.
We used to call her the 'Black Pig'
Note the 'Mexi-Floats', and interesting array of vehicles

This could be 73/74, I was working out my notice with the RFA, Bedivere went Vancouver then returned to UK.
I had worked my notice but was asked to stay with her for the Vancouver trip; The madhouse failed to get me a relief and I handed in my 48 and walked off in Marchwood.
The scratch told me I could not do it! sorry mate I have worked my notice, no relief I'm off.
Next stop was Bank Line for 14 extremely happy years, 8 of them as Chief, I would have been lucky to make Second with the RFA.

Hi Ian, I did exactly the same thing on the Dewdale in 74. Joined supposedly for a month to allow the 3/o home to resit his Orals, the old man and I took an instant dislike to one another, and after 6 months I put in 72 hours notice. Paid off in Invergordon, and spent hours at the railway station as he didn't want me on his ship once we had arrived.
Happy days!
