What a feeling of motion - the wind and the swell contribute to the ship's movements! The tug seems such an insignificant 'tub' - but the haggling was vital, and the tug/tub was essential too. Excellent contrasts. Compare my comments on the 'Maid of Morven' sketch. Donald.
And thanks Donald. I started painting after having seen Alex A. Hurst's book on Thomas Somerscales, and I thought it was the spirit of adventure that attracted me.
Can't afford to: have to paint deceased dogs, front door facades with freshly asphalted drives, the local shopping mall in winter blue etc. Should have started right away with yacht portraits, - that would have been a feasible project. Or at least ferries... problem is I enjoy painting deceased dogs more than modern ferries.
