Taken from Nicholas Leach's book:
ON879 was a 35'6" self righting motor boat of which 27 were built. 879 was built in 1950 by Groves and Guttridge and was at Scarborough from 10-1-51 until October 1956. It capsized on service on 8-12-54 and three were lost (not specified whether crew or otherwise). In reserve fleet 1956-1963 and sold in March 1963. this old lifeboat was owned by a welshman who worked prawn creels out of skye .she was put up where she is for the winter.he worked her out of portree,uig,and carbost on skye,always worked with square prawn creels,not sure if the man is still on the go or not havnt heard of him for a few years now..Jamsie
