I believe this class of craned bulker were the biggest ships trading into the Lakes. Long and thin which you can see from your fine photograph, Bobs(Thumb) They were known , so I believe, as '625'ers' due to their loa.

Hi Stumps. There were two "Laker/Salties" built in Scotland and painted a bright orange and owned by Pioneer Shipping. The Sask.Pioneer is now strictly in the lakes trade, painted a very bright blue , named Kaministiqua and owned by Lower Lakes Towing.Cheers...Doug.

As a press man I attended the launch of SASKATCHEWAN PIONEER on 13th July 1983 at Govan. One of the best photos I got of the event was of a TV crew running for their lives as the ship went slightly off course going down the slip and partially demolished the jetty they were standing on. If/when I find the photo, I’ll post it.
SASKATCHEWAN PIONEER was the second of a pair ordered from Govan by the Canadians. The other one, which was launched in April 1983 and was fitting out at the time of my visit, was CANADA MARQUIS.
