No more KALININ-class ships going. Last unit, the 18th of 19 ships built, the former BASHKIRIJA (1964) stranded in some way in Bangkok Thailand last year - so now they are all gone. A half-sister ship still sails, the USSR Navy's former ADZHARIJA (4 sisters built at MTW 1972-1973 on the same hull form as the KALININ and AKADEMIK KURTCHATOV-classes), now called KRONSHTADT, a navy oceanographic vessel based in the Leningrad Oblast Navy base (base Kronshtadt).

But they were very fine looking at - ESPECIALLY in COLOUR photos....!

One of them, the former Litvia was moored in Luanda, Angola.

She also operated with the name Boguchar as from 1988, before becoming Fu Jian under Chinese ownership in 1995 and subsequently Green Coast in 2000. She was then spotted in 2004 in Luanda moored very close to the beach and with mysterious comings and goings on board. I dont know what happened to her subsequently.
