FIFE

Photo : 25 June 1987 : Portsmouth
HMS Fife entering Portsmouth to pay off on a damp and overcast day, she was escorted in by RMAS Bustler and Powerful.
She had completed a refit at Portsmouth the previous year (June 1986) when she had been converted into a cadet training ship. The Seaslug system had been removed and extra accommodation for the cadets provided in the former magazine and in a deckhouse built on the quarter deck.
She had completed a series of training cruises, culminating in a visit to North America and the Great Lakes earlier in 1987 before returning to UK to pay off.
She was sold to Chile and renamed BLANCO ENCALADA.

She looked a bit odd without that massive Sea Slug launcher but still a lovely looking ship, from all angles, but especially this one. Thanks for posting these pics of her Tim!
Kind regards
Craig.

The days before stealth, what good looking vessels we had, I would say some of the best in the world!
