Finnmarken arriving Fremantle March 2, 2010 from Cape Town. She will spend almost two weeks here before heading north to Dampier for use as an accommodation ship for workers on the Gorgon gas project.

Main Engine / Generators : Wärtsilä 9L32 - 2 x 5.630 bhp.
Main Engine / Generators : Wärtsilä 6L32 - 2 x 3.780 bhp.
Emerg.Gen : Mitsubishi S6A3-MTPA - 1 x 475 kw.
Shaft Gen : 2 x 2.000 kw.
Exh.Boiler : Economiser Parat.
Aux.Boiler : Parat Water Tube Boiler.


The ship’s main engines are four-stroke diesel engines made by Wärtsilä. The engines are paired two by two. Anterior engines are 9 cylinder W9L32 with 5630 horsepower each, and the rear are 6 cylinder W6L32 with 3780 horsepower each. The stated overall performance is 18,820 horsepower. The propulsion system is geared so that it can run in five different operating modes with both diesel-electric and conventional mechanical transmission. This allows one main engine to drive both propellers simultaneously. In addition, MS Finnmarken has two 1370 horsepower Brunvoll FU 80 LTC 2250 thrusters at the bow and a submersible 1650 horsepower Ulstein kompassthruster (azimuth pod) in the stern. Electrical power is produced by two 2500 kVA shaft generators, and a Mitsubishi S6A3-MTPA diesel emergency generator.

2006 Transferred to Hurtigruten ASA Narvik Norway.
2009 Chartred for minimum 18 months as accommodation ship in Australia.
2019 Transferred to Owner / Manager - Hurtigruta Cruise A/S Tromsø Norway.

Mmmm One way for the company to reduce their losses, I wonder though what effect this will have on the Hurtigruten service now.

All white does not a thing for her - still, I suppose sitting in the tropics going nowhere for eighteen months minimum, there are some reflection qualities in the livery?

Wow...she's far from home - no wonder she's in all white. For her sake I hope she goes back to Norway and repainted once this stint ends.
