First voyage in free waters

First voyage in free waters

Hi all,
last Saturday RODE ZEE made her first trip in free waters near Flensburg during a nice little RC-meeting. It was a windy but sunny day. Good requirements to test the vessel ;-).

A video of these event is availlable at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9xJHPmeddw

Very nice! I assume that PHDR was her call-sign, judging by the signal flags?

Best call signs were the two large tugs from South Africa, John Ross and the W. Woltermade, the signs were ZTUG and ZTOW.

I remember those two, from reading about the tugs when they were new. The only others I can recall off hand are GGZA - Meeching - and PIZQ - Zwarte Zee. I have a tape with the 2182 KHz radio traffic concerning the 'Sitakund' incident in October 1968. That call sign and the Dutch voice that was repeating them over and over are etched into the brain!

Hi guys,
glad you like the model.

@Meechingman: Yes, you're right. At first, when the vessel was put into service, her callsign was PHDR. Later it changed to PHCT
