Once, when I was on a freighter docked at Matarani, Peru, one of the locals asked me what our next port of call was scheduled to be. When I replied, "Arica, Peru", he said, "Oh, no, that is Arica, Peru. We're going to take it back someday". The people in Arica got a good laugh out of that.

Hi Klaatu83! Chiles relations with Peru are very good now. We may even drink pisco sour from Peru en restaurants. It is Bolivia and Evo Morales
who wants a port in Chile!
Cheers

Quintero,
Is there not a hill in Arica where I believe Bernado O'higgins defeated Peru. Forgive me if it is not correct as 1967 when I was there on the PSNC ship Pizarro is a long stretch for my memory.
Cheers,
Nick Jones
