Great view of the Flinders, Bob. Did a couple of trips in her, good times.
Was the only one of the class which remained as steam turbine till breaking up. Very well built ships, which the 30 year life span backs up.

Hi Don,I'm actually a bit embarresed to tell you that i don't really remember what type of diesel engines went into the Encounter Bay Class ships that were re-engined in the 80's but i'm sure top speed was no more than about 18 knots. I was looking to see if i could find some info on the re-engined ships but didn't find much, maybe if a engineer that sailed on them reads this post will be able to tell you. Anyway i may find out yet as it's got me going now!!

Don:
They were Burmeister + Wain types but I am unable at the moment to tell you what model or by whom they were built.
My collection of Lloyd's Registers stops just short of the years where these ships were re-engined and resumes after they had gone to the knackers' yard. However, my local library has all the LR's from the intervening years but I need to make an appointment to view them.
If none of the aforementioned (by stevie) engineers gets here first - I'll be back!
