A telescopic view showing the interior of the foremast with the ladder leading to the crows nest' which was warmed with electricity and had a roof and weather-screen' the two masts were hollow steel shafts rising over 200feet' the height from keel to mainmast head was 234 feet. the ladder to the crows nest was 130feet above the water line consisting of 110 steel rungs...

These days the ladder would probably have had safety hoops to safeguard against falling backwards off the ladder.

I was Bridge Boy on the QM in 64. Though I never had to keep lookout in the Crows Nest, I did clamber up there for a look see a few times. I very tight fit at the top.
I counted 108 rungs on the ladder.
