Gangway Watch.........

Gangway Watch.........

Who watched THAT?

-City of Tema- at Tenerife on 27/11/2007.
She has been under detention here since June 2006 after breaking down on a voyage from Nigeria to the Azores. Her owners abandoned her along with the 12 crew members .
Several Seafarers charities assisted with help to repatriate them.

I think I should change that sign in the background to read - Security level,Zero.
On second thoughts it already reads correctly - Security minus 1-

Mind the step the first one can be a killer. :)

Sad to see any ship fall into such disrepair.

Yes Bill, a general cargo vessel, one of a large class of similar ships.
She was built in Romania in 1981 as the "Sucidava" for Navrom , the state owned shipping line. 3,374 g.t. & 4,620 dwt.
Sold and renamed " Essco Hope" in 1999.
Renamed "City of Tema" in 2004 by the same owners and is registered in Panama. The true owners, also believed Romanian, have not been identified as they abandoned the ship and crew.
The crew of 12, from Ukraine, Burma, Romania and Bulgaria were owed 9 months wages. They have now all been repatriated and await payments from the anticipated sale - for scrap no doubt- of the ship.
Consignatories of the cargo, the bunker provider and port dues amonsgt others want a share too!
The official Court do***ent shows the basis for the auction to be a total of €196,165.70 owed.
The Port of Sant Cruz de Tenerife has now applied for judcial consent to auction the ship .
At the time of her detention in Tenerife she had 35 hull and machinery deficiencies covering every possible area !
Her last voyage charterer for this trip was "Golden Oil Industries, PC 14 NCWS House, Ahmed Onibudo Street, Lagos, Nigeria .
Makes a change for Nigerians to get scammed.

Rick, thanks for info--name should have been "Suicide--ava." In recent years we had quite a few large, mainly Russian, trawlers detained in NZ because of maintenance deficiencies, crews invariably owed months of wages, dependent on local generosity until they could be returned home.
cheers, Brent
