Geest ship, Panama Locks, = Geesthaven

A banana ship belonging to the Geest line. I have forgot the name of the ship. I was onboard the R V Star when I took this photo 1973/6.

Does anybody out there know the name of the ship. when you enlarge the photo you can make out Geest -------

I have enlarged the slide and it looks like Dave is correct you can just about make out GeestHaven.

Thanks for the comment Paulo

It is an original Geest, the twin funnels are a giveaway, plus the crest is on the bow. It is either Geestcape or Geesthaven as mentioned above.
The question is though - how come she's going through the Panama Canal? Their normal trade area was east of there.

I've had a closer look and i agree with you. I was taken by the angle of the first photo in the locks. She seemed to have an accommodation fwd look about her.

I'm guessing round the time of the photo, they were getting ready to bring in the Geest Star and hence selling this one, and she is out on charter before selling on; this was a common thing to do just before selling their ships.

I have had another look at the slide and i can just about make out the name and it looks like Geesthaven. As Neville says she was on charter to DelMonte at the time.
There is another photo of her in the locks when we were side by side.

Shipmate,
I have looked at the Geesthaven photo in your gallery and in one of the comments it says that your Geesthaven was built in 1975 for a different company and came to Geest Line around 1985.
I took the above photo between 1973 and 1976 that could be why they are different ships.

Thanks for the comments.
