Wonder hopw these ship[s would fare against today's RN? Manxman would certainly outrun anything the RN has at the moment. My Dad was on the apollo, and she could do 40 knots without breaking a sweat!

The old Glasgow could certainly overpower 'Daring' quite easily - bearing in mind the only anti ship capability the latter has at present is her 4.5 inch gun!

The object on the pole mast abaft GLASGOW's funnel is the antenna for her aircraft homing beacon, a US set known as YE.
Not sure about the Abdiel class minelayers doing 40 knots - I've never seen any authoritative reference to that effect.

NickNZ is correct! APOLLO passed EAGLE when we were doing full power trials in '56. She could really move. Official figures don't always tell the real story.
